Aussie Aussie Aussie – Oi! Oi! Oi!

If you have ever had the opportunity to dine in Australia you know that freshness, flavour and fine wine are three things that the Aussies do really well!  Not planning a trip to the “Land Down Under” anytime soon but would love to experience a true Australian meal? Well Grill 582 at the Best Western Premier in KL Sentral has brought it to Malaysia for you!

In conjunction with the “Flavours of Australia” during the entire month of June, Chef Siti Arini has put together a beautiful six course, authentically Australian meal that can be enjoyed with four individually hand picked wine pairings.

Chef Arini has not only mastered some very traditional favorites such as Pavlova and Anzac biscuits, but has also put her own mark on some classics such as Barramundi and Black Angus Rib Eye. Meanwhile, the hotel’s sommelier has personally hand selected two reds and two whites that match each of the dishes perfectly in bouquet, flavour and body.

Scallop and Mussels in Green Pea Puree with Chorizo Oil

This was a beautiful opening dish that awakened the taste buds with the freshness of the pea puree and the slight kick of chorizo that lingered on the palate. The choice of a crisp Shaw and Smith Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect pairing to contrast the rich texture of the dish.

Lamb Cutlet with Goat Cheese and Pepperade

Lamb Cutlet with Goat Cheese and Pepperade

A healthy cut of Australian Lamb that was grilled to medium rare perfection and topped with a sweet and creamy pepperade and goat cheese.  These hearty, strong flavours were balanced beautifully by the peppery dry DB Bortoli Shiraz.

Palate Cleanser - Dark Chocolate and Chilli Sorbet

Dark Chocolate and Chilli Sorbet

Not your usual palate cleanser –what a lovely surprise!  Maybe not a traditional Aussie flavour, but the hint of chilli really gets your taste buds ready for the next course. The Shiraz from the previous course actually went nicely with this too. In fact, it could make a lovely dessert!

Fish and chips are an obvious must for any Australian menu, but you have not had them like this! Tender, moist, grilled barramundi served with thickly cut tender chips and tangy malt vinegar for dipping. The buttery Coopers Chardonnay smoothly contrasted the tangy bite of the vinegar – great pairing!

Grilled “Murwarra” Black Angus Rib Eye with Slow Roasted Black Grapes and Confit of Fennel

No Australian meal would be complete without a beautiful cut of grass fed beef. Although a thinner cut than many rib-eyes, this well marbled steak was grilled beautifully to medium and was melt in your mouth tender.  The sweetness of the roasted grapes was a great accompaniment and both went well with the bold, heady Cabernet Sauvignon by Evans and Tate.

Pavlova

Simply Pavlova

Keeping to simple uncomplicated flavours, this pavlova is topped only with cream and passion fruit. The meringue was delightfully crisp on the outside and chewy in the middle. Perfect finish to the meal!

For those that still have room – a true Aussie classic, good dunked in your coffee or on its own.

This special meal is on offer to June 30th.  The 6 courses are 180 RM ++ or 300 RM ++ with wine pairing.

  4. argh... i miss my porterhouse steak from coles LOL, used to enjoy it on weekends and YES, freshness is something you can get in Aussie, especially the steak and fresh greens!
