OMG! OOH MY GAS Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

“I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream!” This lyric is taken from a very old American song and was the first words to pop in my head when I arrived at OMG! OOH MY GAS ice-cream kiosk on the first floor of the Pavilion Mall.
It does not matter what age you are ice cream is that type of treat that will instantly bring you back to the time when you were five years old begging and throwing the biggest fit of your life for three scoops of chocolate instead of two. Ice cream trucks selling their best cones around suburban neighborhoods and children and adults lining up for the fresh sweet goodness in their mouth were memories from my innocent childhood when I strongly believed that the yummy cold delight provided all the important nutrients for my growing body.
I excitedly began walking around the OMG shop eagerly looking for the area where you ponder all the flavors and toppings. For some strange reason, I was unable to spot the tubs of vanilla, strawberry or chocolate flavorings. I must have circled OMG three times but the only things that I saw were different pieces of high technology equipment with white fog spilling out in all directions. It was undeniably WEIRD SCIENCE!
This unique ice cream parlor whips up your on-the-spot dream come true ice cream in only one minute. With your choice of gelato, milk or soy milk bases; nutty, fruity, or classic flavors; and toppings ranging from crunchy to saucy ones you can indulge in the best dessert of your life. The use of liquid nitrogen plus the patented system of apparatuses is the key component for a sixty second HEALTHY ice cream experiment.
The extremely high freezing point of the liquid nitrogen fosters a texture that is smooth as silk with no extra preservatives or additives creating a guilt free pleasure. The young employees dressed with their long sleeves and gloves put on a mini production right before your eyes. The sounds of “oohs” and “aahs” circulated through the group of ice-cream fanatics, and we were extremely motivated to dig in and taste their wonderful creations. The following were my personal top three flavors of the afternoon, even though many LOVED the Caramel Macadamia and the Banana and Chocolate with gelato base.
My Favorite Flavors:
Strawberry Cheesecake with Ice Cream: This smooth and creamy treat was my favorite and one of the best sellers at OMG! My first bite emitted immediate satisfaction. The strawberry and cream cheese flavors were the perfect combination to the beginning of the liquid nitrogen science experiment. The sweetness of the strawberry flavor and the creaminess of the cheese gave each bite bursting with the ripeness of strawberries. And it doesn’t even stop there. At the bottom of the “cutie” size cup, you are pleasantly surprised with piecrust crumbles. These crunchy bits added an extra “umph” to the already perfect addiction. The mixture of all three ingredients gave me the sensation of being at grandma’s house savoring a nice cold refreshment after a hot day.
Pineapple Tart with Soy Milk: The soy milk was my favorite base. It was the healthiest of the three options between the gelato and ice cream bases. However, you didn’t feel like you were sacrificing goodness for a low calorie option. The consistency was just as smooth and silky and it tasted so fresh and scrumptious. The pineapple tart was another mouthwatering favorite. You could literally taste the cinnamon and the spice from the pineapple that you savor in most pineapple pastries in Malaysia. It was almost unreal that you were having ice cream but yet it felt like you were biting into a flat opened tart filled with jelly. This would be a delightful option in honor of the Hari Raya celebration.
Peanut Butter and Macadamia Nuts with Soy Milk: For all you peanut butter fans out there this is your ice cream of choice! Just imagine dipping your spoon inside a jar of creamy nutty peanut butter and putting it all in your mouth. This is the exact feeling you taste when biting into this organic joy. It was absolutely incredible how precise the flavor was to a peanut butter sandwich. The only thing missing was the jelly, and it would have been the perfect afternoon snack in the form of an ice cream.
