Fiercer is the bigger, more sophisticated sister of Fierce Curry House. The original outlet in Bangsar is a little more casual, opening out onto the street, while big sis is chic in design and brings some new things to the menu too.

Fierce Curry House, opened for only a year, quickly gained a reputation for making luxurious biryanis - think lobster, scallop and veal! Fiercer carries these famed dishes to Publika, but also adds booze, Kati Rolls (a popular Indian street food) and homemade ice cream by The Last Polka to its offerings.

Apparently original Kati Rolls came from Kolkata and were made with paratha bread encircling a kati kebab. Nowadays however, the name Kati Roll is generically used for just about any Indian flatbread that wraps up any number of fillings. Chefs at Fiercer cook up four versions: chicken; mutton; prawn and; vegetarian. This was our first experience with a kati roll so honestly we have nothing to compare it with. We found them to be spicy, tasty, filling snacks, likely to go down very well with a chilled beer.

Lassis are a carry over from Fierce Curry House. The Mango is the most ordered variety. Hubby liked the freshness of the Pineapple and I enjoyed the slightly less common Starfruit.

In my books, booze is always a bonus and we're happy to see a short list of beers, wine by the glass and a couple of liquors on the Fiercer menu. Corkage is at RM30 per bottle if you'd like to bring your own.

Ice cream by The Last Polka is a locally produced treat made with 100% natural ingredients. It's a creamy French style but makes use of local produce for flavouring. Expect to see Malaysian favourites like Durian and, some interesting inventions too such as Guinness. We sampled the Salted Gula Melaka on top of a rich Nutella Roti. The light saltiness in the ice cream balanced out the sweet shards of palm sugar and Nutella filling. Unless you are a sugar addict, this dessert is best shared.
