Feeling the weight of the city on your shoulders? Desire to escape from the noise and sit outside enjoying a cool breeze in a gentle green environment? Rest your eyes from ubiquitous greys and brown and spend some time gazing at the myriads of trees and flowering groves dotting the landscape amidst water features and curving paths at the KL Golf and Country Club’s Golfer’s Terrace. Not everyone knows this but non-members are welcomed for dining in this beautiful and relaxing location.

Today sees the launch of the new ‘Healthy Choices’ Menu, all offerings are carefully and creatively prepared with quality and fresh ingredients under the eye of Executive Chef Arnold Kwok. A nice touch for any muncher who’s watching their waistline is that carbs, calories and fats are listed below each dish. But it’s the pictures on the colourful menu that grab my eye. They look so mouthwatering that I don’t know how I would choose from among these delights. Thankfully I don’t have to! But I’m thirsty after a long hot day so I’m happy to see that our first taste will be some freshly made juices. We enjoy sipping on the thick colourful Mango Berries and zingy Citrus Kiwi; don’t sip too long though because the melty ice will water down your drink.
Just a note dear reader on this post, we were given tasting portions each of all plates, and you can expect a dish three times the size you see photographed here!
The new menu ranges from breakfast through lunch to dinner, and we’re starting with one of the breakfast treats, a truly yummy Baked Vegetable Frittata (RM15.00 ++). We love the lightness of the egg, the crunchiness of the vegetables, broccoli vying with bell peppers and more for our attention. But what gives this dish a little special Asian style kick is a slither of zingy tomato chili sauce hidden under the alfalfa sprouts.

The frittata, along with many of the breakfast options arrives with a delicious warm just baked Banana Nut Muffin and slices of Almond Zucchini bread. Neither of us can believe these baked goods contain no wheat. The almond flour keeps the bread soft and moist while coconut flour gives amazing texture and flavour to the muffin. Your tummy won’t rumble after this combination for sure!

Tuna Guacamole Salad (RM 29.00++) is not your standard garden salad. The tuna mix is rolled sushi style in a dark seaweed lining. Softly crumbling eggs with vibrant orange yokes lay atop a colourful concoction of flavourful leaves, black olives and onions. Our creamy pine nut dressing had just a hint of black pepper and the whole dish was fresh and well seasoned, and didn’t last long!

Butter Seared Fresh Norwegian Salmon, with warm tomato relish (RM 36.00 ++) is divinely cooked with a slightly crisp golden crust, which breaks open to reveal tender pink flakes. What I love, love, love and hadn’t realized I’d been craving for, is the rich Mediterranean style sauce which is truly tomatoey with the bold flavours of capers and olives melding with the mellow notes of basil. We try both accompaniments; the brown rice, which appears to be more in the red spectrum, served sticky style with a good amount of fibre, and the supremely healthy option of caul-rice (finely grated cauliflower with onion) which I can truly recommend as tasty.

|Brown Rice - Mashed Sweet Potato and Cabbage are also side options|
Our second main taster is Seared Beef Strip Loin (RM38.00 ++). A touch of grill sets off this chilled Australian Grain-Fed beef, sparkled with sea salt and black pepper. A delicious firm steamed mushroom aside, I can’t stop spooning the seriously smooth sweet potato mash enhanced by drizzled garlic butter and chimi churri sauce.

Once again we are spoiled with a tasting plate of two desserts. Warm Mixed Berries (RM15.00 ++) are reduced with honey and butter and served with hand churned coconut ice cream. Shades of childhood memories making summer jams slide past as we spoon down the sourey sweet concoction. The ice cream is a revelation; the first taste of pure coconut sorbet soon softens into a melting ice cream with a subtle hint of vanilla. Mmm! Lucky chef sent out those extra spoonfuls. Sweet Potato Pie (RM12.00++) is a delicious blend of almond milk, spices and whipped coconut cream on a light almond flour pastry. It’s an altogether smooth dessert.

I’m in love with Chef Kwok's simple food philosophy. He tells us straight; ‘What you taste is what you get, sweet potato just the way nature meant it to be, delicious fresh salmon, treat it right, don’t mask it!’
‘Simplicity is hard to achieve,’ he says, ‘you have to work at it.’ Well it may be hard work in the kitchen but it was easy work to eat here tonight, with the delightful view and the tasty, fresh food. I’m sure to come back, with an entourage.
KLGCC Golfer’s Terrace serves beer and soft drinks but welcomes you to bring your own wine for a small corkage fee. On Friday nights a poolside buffet is offered, which surely has to be a draw in this delightful environment.
Reasons to visit: Simply delightful fresh food; classics with a slight twist; peaceful, restful ambience and; you don’t need to be a golfer to visit!
